Champion makes the best oil Filters. They cost more but are clearly the best. Don’t be fooled by the lower price Tempest filters. I have had the nut on the end of the Tempest foyers year off when removing the filter from the engine. I have never had that issue with a Champion oil filter. Just what I ordered.

These filters filter the he11 out of our aircraft engine oil. This filter does such a good job of filtering the impurities out of our oil that the oil almost turns back to water. When I do my oil changes, I could practically drink the oil coming out of the engine its so purely filtered, but my aircraft partners wont let me so that I dont risk missing my monthly aircraft and maintenance payments. I will be buying more of these filters. And keep buying oil! Those electric planes are silly.

Why do we pay $27 for practically the same thing that we pay $5 for at the auto parts store? The conventional wisdom is that the lack of production volume, the costs of FAA certification, and product liability drive the costs of these items. Is that true? I looked into the first factor at least - production volume. Based on Bureau of Transportation statistics my best guess is that there are about 200,000 active GA piston engines out there in the US. Assuming that on average each one of those gets an oil change once a year, thats a pretty limited market. And then when you remember that there is a variety of different filters to fit the different installations, the number of any particular filter will be much less. Not to mention that there are different manufacturers for each part. So I feel better now about the $27. Maybe the cost will go down when we all have those new flying cars. ...Oh, but they will be electric!

Wrong filter. The ones shipped to me did not have a threaded stud, as shown in product picture. Perhaps I made mistake while ordering, but this distinction was not obvious. I used the Champion table to select model #.

Not happy with my last order, 2nd filter used of 4 ordered has bad threads. Opened another box and it screwed on easily as it should. Always liked Champion, but think I’ll be going back to Tempest.
